CGC and TAG Slab Protectors: What Fits and How to Protect Them
Share
Short answer: CGC slabs (about 135.0 × 80.3 × 7.5 mm) and TAG slabs (about 134.8 × 80.0 × 7.3 mm) are almost the same height and width as PSA slabs but about 1 mm thicker, so tight PSA bumpers and guards do not fit them. The Slabium Metal Case PSA fits CGC and TAG slabs up to about 8 mm thick, and the SLABIUM BAG display window carries both.
CGC and TAG have become popular choices for Pokémon and other TCG cards, and many collections now mix graders. The problem: most slab protectors are made for PSA only. Here is what fits CGC and TAG holders, and how to protect them.
CGC and TAG slab dimensions vs PSA
| Grader | Height | Width | Thickness |
|---|---|---|---|
| CGC standard | 135.0 mm (5.32 in) | 80.3 mm (3.16 in) | 7.5 mm (0.30 in) |
| TAG standard | 134.8 mm (5.31 in) | 80.0 mm (3.15 in) | 7.3 mm (0.29 in) |
| PSA standard (for reference) | 135.8 mm (5.34 in) | 80.3 mm (3.16 in) | 6.3 mm (0.25 in) |
Typical outside dimensions of standard holders from published caliper measurements, ±0.5 mm. See the full slab dimensions guide.
The height and width are close enough that the label and card sit in roughly the same place. The extra millimetre of thickness is what stops a precision-fit PSA bumper from going on.

The Metal Case: one case for PSA, CGC and TAG
The Metal Case PSA is an anodized aluminum frame with an anti-scratch, UV-protective glass panel and a strong magnetic closure. Its depth tolerance lets it take standard PSA, CGC and TAG holders up to about 8 mm thick. That makes it the simplest way to protect a mixed collection with one product, in matching colors: 36 colorways, $24.99 CAD, or 3 for $59.99 mixing any colors.
Displaying CGC and TAG slabs
Put the slab in a Metal Case, then into the Acrylic Box PSA for a dust-proof, stackable display. Keep the shelf away from direct sun, even with the UV-protective glass. Our home display guide covers placement and layouts.
Carrying CGC and TAG slabs to card shows
The SLABIUM BAG is a crossbody sling with a front display window sized around the slab, not the grader, so CGC and TAG slabs fit as well as PSA and BGS. For extra protection inside the window, use the slab in its Metal Case.
Tips for mixed-grader collections
- Sort storage by grader. Boxes and slots made for one holder size are loose or tight for the others.
- Use one protector that fits several graders, like the Metal Case, to keep a consistent look on the shelf.
- Check thick-card holders separately. Thick CGC and PSA holders for patch or memorabilia cards are too thick for standard protectors.
- When buying any protector, look for the grader name in the fit description, not just "fits graded cards".
Frequently asked questions
Do PSA slab cases fit CGC slabs?
Precision-fit PSA bumpers and guards do not, because CGC holders are about 1 mm thicker. The Slabium Metal Case PSA fits both.
Do PSA slab cases fit TAG slabs?
Same answer: TAG holders are slightly thicker than PSA. Use the Metal Case PSA.
Is there a bumper for CGC slabs?
Not in the Slabium range today. For CGC, the Metal Case is our recommended protector.
Will a CGC slab fit in the SLABIUM BAG?
Yes. The display window takes PSA, BGS, CGC and TAG slabs.
Do you have protectors for SGC slabs?
Not yet. SGC holders are larger than PSA, CGC and TAG holders.
